This is one of the Wood Nymph moths in the genus Eudryas, and it is believed they mimic bird droppings as a means of camouflage.

  1. I saw a moth like these tonight just before midnight in my church window! I had never seen one before and I am 61! It’s legs looked like tiny frogs legs from the inside of the window and it appeared to have wings folded from the outside view. It was July 14 2018 in Hinesburg Bt.
