This was found in May in coastal Connecticut, in our school’s outdoor space. We’d like to know what it is.

We quickly identified your Leaf Beetle in the family Chrysomelidae as a highly variable Sumac Flea Beetle, Blepharida rhois, thanks to this BugGuide image. According to BugGuide, it is also known as a Currant Flea Beetle.
