Hello,
I just started photography and was at Lake Lotus Park when I stumbled upon this odd grasshopper perched on a blade of guinea grass. It was yellow and had an odd pattern on its body. It also had very long legs and even longer antennae. I would like to know what it is please. I have attached my best photo although its still not the best.

Dear Avery,
This is a hatchling Katydid, not a Grasshopper. Katydids, which are considered Longhorned Orthopterans, have much longer antennae than do Grasshoppers. We believe your Katydid is a hatchling Scudder’s Bush Katydid in the genus Scudderia, and you can see the similarity with the individual in this image on Project Noah. In our opinion, your image is overexposed, and when we corrected the density, this nymph looks more orange than yellow.
