I found this today on my compost lid. The bug looks like it is wearing a lime green coat with a white fringe. It also looks like it has large lime green eyes and a red nose unless I am looking at the back end of that bug.

Dear J. Alberts,
This distinctive caterpillar is called a Saddleback Caterpillar,
Acharia stimulea, and it should be handled with caution because they are capable of stinging.

  1. Don’t touch! Don’t touch! Don’t touch!

  2. I accidently brushed up against one, it burns like fire.

  3. Omg. I hate those things. Been stung soo many times in Florida. Yes. Like fire.

  4. I did the same, accidentally brushed up against one. It was on the underside of a leaf on a weed I was ripping out and it brushed my upper arm. I couldn’t figure out for a couple minutes why my arm was on fire.
