Elegant Sheep Moth

Dear Ella,
Since the Elegant Sheep Moth,
Hemileuca eglanterina, is a diurnal species, most folks confuse it with a butterfly as they do not associate day flights with moths.  You can read more about the Elegant Sheep Moth on BugGuide.  The Elegant Sheep Moth is a highly variable species and some individuals lack the black markings on the wings.
