Flying Carpenter Ant

Dear Chicago window,
Since Ants are closely related to wasps, your identification is not too far afield.  This is a flying Eastern Carpenter Ant,
Camponotus pennsylvanicus, and you can compare your photo to this image on BugGuide.  Flying Ants are the reproductive members of the colony and they are known as alates.  They swarm when conditions are right and after mating, a fertile queen will begin a new colony.
