Mysterious Things

Dear tklb2011,
We have no idea what these mysterious things are, but they do seem to resemble eggs.  Hopefully our readership may be able to contribute some information.

Eggs or Not???

Ed. Note: July 13, 2011
We received a comment from Jessi indicating that these might be Moth Eggs from the family Geometridae.

  1. Jessi says:

I did a report on insect eggs for school a little while ago, and I know I’ve seen them before. I want to say moth eggs, but I won’t know for sure until I dig my report out.

I managed to find my school report, and I DO have this exact egg included. I did many hours of research, and also interviewed a few experts at UC Berkeley, and they all agreed that it was a Lepidoptera egg. The exact species is hard to determine without seeing one of the parents actually lay the eggs though. I have “Possible Geometridae eggs” but that wasn’t suggested by any of the experts though, so I’m not sure where I got that tidbit from.
