I live in British Columbia and went for a hike to a mountain lake and found this bug on leaf in a field of wild flowers. It is very colorful and the leaf didn’t have any marks of where it may have been eating.

Burying Beetle

Hi Jan,
This is a Burying Beetle or Sexton Beetle in the genus
Nicrophorus.  Adults work together to bury small dead animals.  They then lay eggs of the rotting corpse and protect it as the larvae develop.
