Found this speciman near Springerville on a path along the Little Colorado River.
Is the abdoman distended because it is about to lay eggs?

Blister Beetle

Dear Lyman,
This is a Blister Beetle in the genus
Megetra and you are to be commended for even recognizing that it is a beetle as its morphology is very different from the typical beetle.  BugGuide does not have any explanation for the distension of the abdomen but it seems to be a characteristic of the genus.
