Moth???
Hi,
Was sitting down by the creek in remote N. California (about 6 miles from the ocean and 130 miles NW of San Francisco) and saw this moth? having a little trouble in the weeds. At first, I thought it was a orange dragonfly that is seen around here but on further investigation saw that it was a moth? which I’ve not seen here before. Do you have more of a clue as to what it is? Thank you,
Darrell

Hi Darrell,
This beauty, Hemileuca eglanterina, is known as a Sheep Moth because of its association with areas where domestic sheep graze. It is found in mountain meadows and sheep pastures from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Coast.
